About the Gilmores

Gilmore's Hotel Coniston is owned and operated by the Gilmore family - Colin & Beryl with sons Karl & Mark. We have been at Coniston since 1982 after operating the Railway Hotel at Condobolin, the Gladstone Hotel at Orange and the Corrimal Hotel at Corrimal (now named the Palm Court Hotel).

3 of Karl's children are now employed at the hotel. James and Mathew are working in the bars and general areas of the business while Rachael has chosen to begin her career in the Bistro.

Descending from coal mining families in and around Cessnock in the Hunter Valley and Mt Kembla in the Illawarra (several of our ancestors were killed in the 1902 Mt Kembla mine explosion in which 96 miners died), we now cater for the large diverse population of the Illawarra region.

Our family members are strong supporters of the Australian Hotels Association with Colin being a NSW Life Member, Karl the President/Delegate of the Illawarra Sub Branch while Mark holds the position of Secretary/Treasurer. Colin's brother, Jack, who previously owned Gilmore's Banksia Hotel at Banksia in Sydney's southern suburbs is also a NSW Life Member and former President of his relevant Sub Branch.

Karl has also taken on the position of President of the Wollongong Liquor Accord. The Wollongong Liquor Accord is a voluntary, industry-based partnership working in the local community to introduce practical solutions to liquor-related problems. The accord aspires to reach agreements on ways to improve the operation of licensed venues so that entertainment venues and precincts are safe and enjoyable. The Wollongong Liquor Accord includes members from the local business community, local council, police, government departments and other community organisations.
